Ghanaian footballers, Thomas Partey and Jordan Ayew have been shortlisted for the African Player of the Year award, 2019 edition, African POTY ‘19.
In a statement published by Africa’s football governing body, CAF, the midfielder and the striker will be in the running for this year’s most coveted African football award, African POTY ‘19.
The appearance on the thirty man short list comes on the back of an impressive performance by both Ghanaian internationals for their respective clubs as well as for the national team.
Jordan Ayew has been in considerably fine form for English based Crystal palace, scoring 4 goals in twelve games for the Eagles. His performance at the tail end of last season and at the beginning of this season has earned him a starting place at the Selhurst park while winning the love and admiration of some Ghanaian fans. His exploits have seen him receive this nomination to be possibly recognized on the continent.
The other Ghanaian representative on the list, Thomas Partey has also been in fine form for Spanish side Atletico Madrid all season long. The twenty five year old has featured for Diego Simeone’s side 16 times in all competition already this season, netting two goals as well. The two time Ghana footballer of the year has been immensely instrumental in the Black Stars’ campaign towards the 2021 AFCON, scoring a goal against South Africa in Cape Coast.

The Ghanaian duo will however be in stiff opposition with the likes of other African greats such Mohamed Salah, Odion Ighalo, Sadio Mane, Trezeguet, Hakim Ziyech amongst others.
The list of nominees is put together by a panel of media and technical professionals. The Awards ceremony slated to be staged in Cairo will award female footballers, African Clubs, National Team Coaches and many other new categories.
